Protection and establishment of habitat networking in Austria.
Description
Interconnection of habitats is essential for the conservation and restoration of habitats. Cohesive habitats ensure the migration and distribution of living beings, as well as the fitness and genetic diversity of species. Based on an analysis of the habitat layout and landscape structure, the report provides a comprehensive overview of the structure of the habitat corridors in Austria with particular attention to insects. The preparation of a guide to assess the permeability of habitat corridors, the anchoring of habitat networking in the forest development plan and the establishment of the “Coordinating Centre for the Networking of Habitats in Austria” also make a significant contribution to the successful implementation of habitat networking.
