Pension gap for supplementary pension by number of years of work

Women therefore have shorter careers than men. Let us examine to what extent this difference has an influence on access to the supplementary pension. The graph below shows the participation in the supplementary pension for employees who have recently taken their retirement pension by gender and by number of years of work. Since the supplementary pension (with exceptions) can only be accrued during a period of work, we can expect that the number of years of work will have an influence not only on access to the supplementary pension, but also on the amount of the supplementary pension. The graph above shows the average amounts by default. If we select the median amounts using the filter, we immediately notice that for all groups, there is a big difference between the average and median pension values. In 2022, the supplementary pension gap for pensioners with more than 45 years of work stood at 9%, a decrease of 17.6% compared to 2021. It is important to note that this gap is significantly lower than that observed in the overall employed population, which stands at 50% this year. To better understand who is receiving a supplementary pension or not and the possible reasons for the pension gap, we divide recent pensioners according to their scheme (employee, self-employed, civil servant), age and marital status. For people with only an employee career, we also look at the situation according to certain career characteristics.
