Surface Water Quality Indicators: Phosphate content in rivers (2023)
Description
The increase of phosphates in the medium, like that of other nutrients, can be used to assess water quality, and is measured periodically as it triggers eutrophy processes. The boundary value used for the phosphate index is the value of the limit set in the ESDN between good and moderate status for each river typology. The typologies with no established legal limit have been registered as ‘No Valuation’.
In this analysis we have considered all the data on phosphate substances extracted from the Monitoring Programmes (monitoring and operational control programme) planned to assess the status, in compliance with state and European regulations, for which information is available in NABIA (System for the exchange of information on water status and quality).
