3D-models of loose rock in Lower Saxony - Göttingen

Description

The geological-geotechnical 3D model of the quaternary subsoil of the urban area of Göttingen was constructed between 2004 and 2009 as part of a cooperation between the State Office for Mining, Energy and Geology and the Geosciences Center of the University of Göttingen. A 54 km2 area in the Leinetal was considered, which includes the densely populated area of the city district of Göttingen as well as the northern part of the municipality of Rosdorf. This 3D model combines information from more than 3000 boreholes as well as geological, soil and geomorphological maps. The geologically complex structure of Göttingen's quaternary subsoil - characterised by the quaternary deposition conditions, salt tectonics and subrosion processes - can be traced using simplified but non-contradictory 3D modelling.
