Distribution of Authorised Associations of the Defense of Forests against the Incendies in the former Aquitaine Region.
Forest Defense Against Incendies is based on a prevention policy. An Order, dated 28 April 1945, made the establishment of Associations Syndicales Authorised (ASA) compulsory in the Landes de Gascogne. These communal or intercommunal associations occupy a central position in this policy. They are made up of volunteer sylviculters.
The activities of the SAAs are essentially to organise and manage all the infrastructures that enable rescue teams to intervene as quickly as possible on an emerging fire.
