Description
On behalf of the Clean Air Platform, the possibilities of retrofitting diesel cars with exhaust gas treatment systems and checking manipulated trucks were analyzed. The study concludes that due to the complexity of exhaust gas aftertreatment, retrofitting would make the most sense for heavy-duty vehicles, which are mainly on the road in urban areas. Illegal manipulations mainly affect Euro V and VI trucks and are usually carried out in order to circumvent the statutory monitoring of urea injection for exhaust gas cleaning. As a result, NOx emissions can rise sharply. However, the detection of such manipulations is technically complex. A measurement program was able to detect both manipulations and defects.
