WMS Geographical Names 1:250 000

This presentation service provides geographical names in scale 1:250 000 (GN250) for the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The geographical names contain the names of the following object ranges:
— Settlement,
— Transport,
— Vegetation,
— Waters,
— Relief and
— Areas

with attributes to:
— Administrative structure (statistical key number)
— River system (water identification according to LAWA)
— Number of inhabitants
— Size (area, length)
— Location (geometry data from the digital landscape model in scale 1:250 000 and additionally attributive geographical coordinates (-GGMMSS-)
— Status of the geographical name
— Language of the geographical name
— Height (height in meters above NN)

The selection of geographical names in the dataset GN250 is based on the map scale 1:250 000. The dataset contains approximately 155 000 entries. The position of the objects is described as point geometry via a single coordinate and via the smallest circumscribed rectangles (Bounding Boxes).
