Mechanical waste treatment (MA) of mixed municipal and commercial waste in Austria
Description
The Federal Environment Agency presents process sequences and plant characteristics - data from 24 plants for mechanical waste treatment of mixed municipal and commercial waste, which were in operation in Austria in 2007. The maximum annual processing capacity of these plants is a total of 1,224,000 tonnes of waste. The largest fraction in terms of volume is made up of mixed trades - waste that is brought in untreated or already pretreated. Furthermore, mixed municipal waste, bulky waste, waste wood, construction waste, etc. are treated. The waste is introduced into the plants with the aim of processing it into substitute fuels or high-heat fractions. The latter are produced in different quality and for the most part fed to an external thermal treatment by means of fluidized bed firing or grate firing.
