European Bird Protection Areas

Description

The areas referred to in Article 4 of the EU Directive on the conservation of wild birds (Birds Directive, Directive 2009/147/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 30 November 2009; previously: Council Directive 92/43/EEC of 2 April 1979) was adopted by the Cabinet of the State Government of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania of 25 September 2007 and 29 January 2008 and notified to the European Commission on 1 April 2008. They are referred to as “Special Protected Areas” (BSG) or “Special Protection Areas” (SPAs). The digitisation of the overall notification took place gradually (depending on the status of the voting procedure) by the LUNG on the basis of TK 10 AS, in sub-areas with additional use of orthophotos from 2002 and 2003. The results of digitisation were handed over to the European Commission digitally and as plots based on the TK 25 N. With the Land Ordinance on the European Bird Protection Areas in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Ordinance on Bird Protection Areas — VSGLVO) of 12 July 2011 (GVOBl. M-V 2011, p. 462), the areas notified to the EU Commission were also declared European Bird Conservation Areas under Land law (Section 21(2) sentence 1 in conjunction with paragraph 3 of the Nature Execution Act). The information on the SPAs (area delimitations and/or factual data of the standard data sheets, stored in the Naturad database) has been updated after the initial notification by the following corrections (via the LU and the BMU) to the European Commission: 31.3.2009, 31.5.2010, July 2011, 31.5.2012, 31.5.2013, 30.6.2014 and 31.05.2015. According to Paragraph 2(3) of the VSGLVO, all white stork and osprey horsts which are located at a distance of up to two kilometres outside the borders of the respective area are part of the respective European Bird Conservation Area. The known horsts that meet these conditions are stored in the shape file spamv12p.*.
