Sampling Monitoring of Eutrophication ESMARES 1122

Description

The information contained in this data set corresponds to the sampling points of the ESMARES 1122 oceanographic campaign carried out from 23 to 27 November 2022 on the coast of the Alboran Sea. The campaign was carried out within the framework of the project of the Marine Strategies of Spain (EEMM, Action ESMARES2-C4A2). El objetivo de la campaña es continuar con el programa de vigilancia de la eutrofización en el litoral mediterráneo conforme a la estrategia de seguimiento de la eutrofización de MEDPOL iniciada en 2010, así como recopilar datos que permitan evaluar la calidad ambiental del medio marino conforme a las obligaciones derivadas de la Directiva Marco sobre Estrategia Marina de la UE (Directiva 2008/56/CE) y su transposición a la normativa española (Ley 41/2010, de 29 de diciembre, de protección del medio marino; BOE No 317, 30 December 2010). This is the representation of the spatial distribution of physicochemical variables (temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen and fluorescence) from CTD profiles, as well as discrete samples collected at different depths for analysis of biogeochemical variables (dissolved inorganic nutrients, total chlorophyll, chlorophyll > 20 microns and CNH) and of the planktonic community from picoplankton to the largest phytoplankton. The area comprising the data provided is included in the Estrecho-Alborán demarcation (DM-ESAL), from Algeciras to Almeria. It is a data set composed of point elements, where each element represents one of the sampling stations carried out in the oceanographic campaign. Each object is associated with a series of alphanumeric variables corresponding to each of the analyzed variables. The geographical information collected is stored in a spatial database. This work has been financed thanks to the project ‘Technical Scientific Advice for the Protection of the Marine Environment: Evaluation and Monitoring of Marine Strategies, Monitoring of Protected Marine Areas of State Competence (2018-2024)’. Marine Strategies are the marine environmental planning instrument created under Directive 2008/56/EC (as amended by Directive 2017/845) establishing a framework for Community action in the field of marine environmental policy (Marine Strategy Framework Directive), and have as their main objective the achievement of the Good Environmental Status (GES) of our seas. The 11 Good Environmental Status descriptors form the basis for the description and determination of good environmental status of the marine environment. They are established by the Directive in its Annex I. The marine assessment areas are located within the Marine Reporting Units defined in the framework of the Marine Strategies of Spain, these Marine Reporting Units being the units used for notification to the European Commission (MRU).
