Potential analysis of tree plantations 19. District of Vienna - Vienna
Description
Against the background of the increase of hot days and tropical nights in connection with climate change, which leads to strains for people, especially in dense urban space, the city administrations are increasingly looking for possibilities for microclimate melioration of street spaces. But also in view of the social trend to increasingly use the street space as a living and recreation space again, the question arises as to the potential for additional tree plantings in the street space.
The present GIS-based analysis is based on the idea of identifying the basic potential of new tree sites in the street space, based on predefined parameters. In a generalised approach, possible tree locations in selected parts or streets of the district were surveyed, including inter alia underground installations and facade spacing.
With regard to the chosen approach, the current traffic organization situation or the division of the road space in the considered road spaces do not represent a limiting factor of the potential. Similarly, requirements to be collected separately in individual cases, such as fire protection and waste disposal, were not taken into account in the analysis.
