European Water Framework Directive (EC-WFD): Status of groundwater bodies (GWK), management cycle 2009-2015
Description
The maps describe the chemical and quantitative status of the WFD-relevant groundwater bodies in the Free State of Thuringia. The status assessment of the groundwater bodies is carried out on the basis of two assessment categories (good, poor). According to the WFD, groundwater is in good chemical status if EU-wide quality standards are met and where groundwater-dependent land ecosystems or related surface waters are not affected. The height of the groundwater level is the benchmark for assessing the quantitative status of the GWK. Monitoring shall be carried out by means of a representative volume measurement network. The groundwater is in good quantitative status according to WFD if there is no overuse of groundwater and there is no significant impairment of groundwater dependent land ecosystems or related surface waters.
