Description
SUP Nuclear Waste Management Programmes, National Waste Management Programme Hungary - Technical Opinion. Council Directive 2011/70/Euratom ‘establishing a Community framework for the responsible and safe management of spent fuel and radioactive waste’ requires the Member States of the European Union to establish national programmes for the management of their spent fuel and radioactive waste. These programs must include all stages of disposal. The establishment of such a national management programme also falls within the scope of Directive 2001/42/EC, as amended, ‘on the assessment of the effects of certain plans and programmes on the environment’. A strategic environmental assessment under Hungarian law is now being carried out for the National Waste Management Programme in Hungary. The competent authority for the National Waste Management Programme and the implementation of the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) is the Hungarian Ministry of National Development.
