Healthcare Associated Infections: Surgical Site Infections

Het Nationaal programma voor de Surveillance van zorggerelateerde Infecties (NSIH) beantwoordt aaneen drievoudige doelstelling: a) In de eerste plaats heeft het surveillanceprogramma als opgave aan de deelnemende ziekenhuizen de noodzakelijke definities en bepalingen te leveren. Op deze manier worden degegevensverzameling en -analyse gestandardiseerd; b) In de tweede plaats stelt het surveillanceprogramma de deelnemers in de gelegenheid om de eigen situatie te plaatsen ten opzichte van andere ziekenhuizen in de regio en in het land. Zonder dat een dergelijk opzet tot betrouwbare vergelijkingen tussen ziekenhuizen kan leiden, is het toch uiterst nuttig voor het identificeren van “outliers” in positieve zowel als in negatieve zin. Het spreekt voor zich dat individuele resultaten van ziekenhuizen hierbij strikt vertrouwelijk worden behandeld, en door hetstudieteam van het WIV uitsluitend aan het betrokken ziekenhuis zelf worden meegedeeld; c) Tot slot laat een dergelijk surveillanceprogramma toe om een globaal beeld te verkrijgen van de epidemiologische situatie m.b.t. de ziekenhuisinfecties en de voornaamste hiermee verbonden risicofactoren en gevolgen in ons land, en - op termijn - van de evolutie ervan in de tijd. De met deze methode verzamelde gegevens zijn in de eerste plaats bedoeld om interne kwaliteitsgaranderende en -bevorderende maatregelen te ondersteunen.
