Guyana Land Mining Titles
Description
Mining titles are administrative entities represented by a portion of territory in which the competent authority grants or has granted an authorisation to research, exploit one or more “concessible” substances.
There are currently three types of mining titles:
— An Exclusive Research Permit (PER) is an exclusivity given by the Minister for Mines to carry out mining research work. Its area is unlimited. Its initial validity period is not more than 5 years, it can be renewed at most 2 times (for a duration less than or equal to the previous one).
— An operating permit (PEX) is an exclusivity given by the Minister responsible for mines to carry out mining and research work that is otherwise subject to authorisation. Its area is unlimited. Its initial validity period is not more than 5 years, there can be up to two renewals of a maximum duration of 5 years each.
— A concession is also an exclusivity given by the Minister but this time by decree in Council of State.
Its area is unlimited. Its initial validity period is not more than 50 years, it is renewable indefinitely in 25-year periods.
