Ground map of Lower Saxony 1 : 50 000 - Threat to soil functions due to soil compaction
Description
The soil assumes important functions in the natural balance, serves as a livelihood for many organisms, as a location for the production of food and stores, filters, buffers and transforms water and substances. Improper use of the soil puts the functions at risk. The map ‘Danger to soil functions due to soil compaction’ (VDBF) shows the extent to which the functions are endangered when driving on heavy agricultural or construction machinery. For this purpose, the ‘site-dependent compaction sensitivity’ is set in relation to the structural properties of the soil. The map of the VDBF refers to the ground depth 35 cm and is presented in 5 steps.
