Cultural History GIS (CultGIS)

Description

Cultural History GIS (CultGIS) is a nationwide data system with information about historical-geographical phenomena.

In the Dutch cultural landscape there are numerous cultural-historical elements and patterns that are the result of mining and habitation history. CultGIS categorically maps some of this information. CultGIS offers information on 5 levels: 9 landscape types such as the sea clay area, the coastal zone and the peat bog area; 19 sub-landscapes; a selection of 70 focus areas; elements, such as dikes, land fences, duck decoys, sprinklers, etc.; and a country-wide regionalisation with 82 regions.
