Description

The aggregated Lower Saxony Moorland Landscapes programme consists of the map of carbon-rich soils with relevance for climate protection (BHK50) and the data set of additional significant peatland biotopes (NLWKN).The carbon-rich soils with relevance for climate protection (BHK50) are a selection of carbon-rich soils that have a climate-relevant peat cover based on the soil type and which have been granted a greenhouse gas reduction potential in the event of rewetting. However, since the data base is based on a scale of 1:50,000, an assessment of the actual reduction potential requires in any case a review of the local location factors.The additional biotopes contained are exclusively biotope types that can be identified as bog biotope type/biotope type of organic sites of particular importance for biotope protection, regardless of the pre-mapping soil type. A special case is the biotope type WET. The biotope can also be partially connected to the mineral soils. Nevertheless, it was evaluated here, as the partly relatively small-scale areas of organic soils in floodplains are not always covered by coarse-scale soil maps (e.g. BK50), but WET has many occurrences on carbon-rich soils. Sites of the biotope type WET should therefore be checked for their soil type in the field/local.The biotope types (with the exception of MY, which would not be protected under §30 today) all belong to the legally protected biotopes according to §30 BNatSchG (WOE partly in connection with §24 NNatSchG). They have all levels from V to IV (cf. Drachenfels 2012).
