Description
On the basis of the Saxon mileage sheets, according to 1872 historical topographic maps were created in Saxony. In a first stage, the equidistant cards were created. Due to new measurements and improvements, the measuring table sheets were created. The map sheets are available as scanned maps at the Saxon State and the State Library SLUB. Of the equidistant cards of Saxony are 156 sheets, occasionally in v. Editions of the SLUB offer “Deutsche Fotothek” can be researched. Unlike today’s topographical maps, these are grade division maps using Ferro’s zero meridian (17°40′west of Greenwich). An overview of all maps is available as a map service (WMS) entitled “WMS Historical Topographic Maps of Saxony” and is operated by the Faculty of Geoinformation, Laboratory Geoinformatics of the HTW Dresden. The WMS service can be reached at the following URL: http://geoinformatik.htw-dresden.de/cgi-bin/hist_tk. Using the getFeatureInfo function you can access the detailed view (light table) of the map forum of the SLUB where you can view a high-resolution scan, retrieve further information and place an order.
