Sampling Van Veen INTEMARES_A4 Mud volcanoes of the Gulf of Cadiz

Description

The information contained in this data set corresponds to the samplings carried out with Van Veen dredger during the INTEMARES A4 CAD oceanographic campaign on the continental shelf of the Gulf of Cadiz and on the SCI for ‘Mud volcanoes of the Gulf of Cadiz’ carried out between 6 and 20 April 2021 and which is linked to subproject A4 of the project ‘Integrated, Innovative and Participatory Management of the Natura 2000 Network in the Marine Environment (LIFE IP INTEMARES). The results will serve to characterize the sediment and associated endofauna in the SCI and in the platform area (which may be used for Marine Strategies monitoring programmes). This is the representation of the spatial distribution of the different sampling points made by the van ven dredger. The area comprising the data provided covers sedimentary bottoms of an area located to the west of the Anastasya mud volcano (located within the SCI) with two Van Veen dredges and at a depth of around 555 metres, both of which were void. Due to the inclement weather, the oceanographic vessel had to approach shallower waters and took the opportunity to carry out eleven Van Veen dredges on the continental shelf (depth between 30 and 62 meters deep) and that will serve for the monitoring program of the Marine Strategies. It is a data set composed of point elements, where each element represents the exact point where the Van Veen dredge was made. Each object is associated with a series of alphanumeric variables such as the name or code of each sampling point, the campaign in which the sampling was carried out, the date, time, the co-ordered UTM X and Y, the UTM area to which our study area belongs, the latitude and longitude in decimal degrees, the depth and a brief description (whether it was null or not and the type of sediment collected) as well as interesting observations of each sampling point. The development of this set of geographical information began in April 2021 thanks to the INTEMARES A4 CAD oceanographic campaign. The geographical information collected is stored in a spatial database. These works have been financed thanks to the LIFE IP INTEMARES Project (LIFE-IP INTEMARES - Integrated, Innovative and Participatory Management for N2000 network in the Marine Environment - LIFE15 IPE/ES/000012). This integrated project has the challenge of laying the foundations to effectively manage the marine areas of the Natura 2000 Network and complete the work and progress promoted within the framework of the LIFE + INDEMARES project, which managed to take a great step in terms of declaring new areas.
