Pension gap for supplementary pension
Description
In 2022, 114,294 people received their retirement pension for the first time (which they did not accumulate with a survivor’s and/or separated or divorced spouse’s pension). This population of recent pensioners is 57% male and 43% female. You will find a more detailed description of their profile in the section "Who are the people who have recently taken their retirement pension?". Men therefore have more access to supplementary pensions than women. In addition to these differences in access, are there also differences in the amount of the supplementary pension? The chart below shows the pension gap for people who have recently retired and have a supplementary pension based on averages (left), as well as the difference between the median amount of the supplementary pension for men and women (right). The large difference between the average and median amounts indicates that supplementary pensions are very unevenly distributed. Here we examine this distribution in more detail.
