Inspire Dataset of Forest Function Legal Soil Protection Forest and Avalanche Protection Function in Baden-Württemberg. In the case of the forest function, forest areas are mapped that meet the criteria of the statutory soil protection forest according to § 30 LWaldG. The main criteria for the designation of soil protection forest are slope inclination and territorial risk of slipping. Soil protection forest protects its location as well as neighboring areas from the effects of water and wind erosion, soil slides, demolition, soil creeps, rockfall, precipitation, humus loss, soil compaction and wetting. A special form of soil protection forest is the avalanche protection forest. It is intended to prevent or reduce the formation of avalanches and snow slides and bring outgoing avalanches to a halt.
