Signal card Heat Cold Storage, Potential
Description
The signalling map shows the potential for Heat Cold Storage (WKO) in South Holland. An ATES system stores excess heat and cold in order to be able to use it at a later time. There are ‘open’ and ‘closed’ systems. A closed system stores the heat relatively shallowly in underground pipes and have a limited capacity. Open systems consist of a doublet of two bubbles of water (hot and cold) in suitable earth layers (water-carrying package), from which water is pumped in and out. The map relates to the suitability of the substrate for open ATES systems in the 2nd and 3rd water-bearing package. Furthermore, the map contains the areas where ATES is limited suitable or not allowed.
