Climate change report 2012
Description
The Climate Protection Report 2012 analyses the trend of greenhouse gas emissions in Austria from 1990 to 2010 and compares these with the objectives of the Austrian Climate Strategy. In 2010, greenhouse gas emissions amounted to 84.6 million tonnes. The use of flexible mechanisms, taking into account emissions trading as well as effects from new forestation and deforestation, results in a calculated target deviation of around 6.2 million tonnes. An estimate for the entire period 2008 to 2012 suggests a gap of approximately 30 million tonnes. As a result, legal arrangements have been made to purchase further emission reduction units, thereby fulfilling Austria's obligations under the Kyoto Protocol. With regard to the targets for 2020, the new Climate Protection Act created a legal framework for the implementation of further reduction measures in Germany.
