Vegetation structure of the green volume 2009

Description

The present vegetation structure of the green volume is based on an interim result from the report "Green volume determination of the city of Dresden on the basis of laser scan data" prepared by the Leibniz Institute for Ecological Spatial Development (IÖR) in August 2014. This can be viewed under the assigned document. Introduction: Urban green is indispensable from an urban ecological and social point of view and fulfils important functions such as dust binding, temperature reduction, wind dampening or groundwater regeneration. In addition, public green spaces form oases of peace that serve recreation, leisure and communication and fulfil important social functions. The ecological effectiveness of urban greenery is particularly dependent on the existing vegetation structure. For example, low vegetation (lawns and meadows) has a cooling effect especially in the evening and night hours, while high vegetation (medium to large trees) mainly contributes to a reduction of the climatic load during the day, but at the same time can negatively affect ventilation. Medium vegetation (shrubs, perennials, hedges and small trees) as well as the high vegetation have a high degree of dust binding capacity from the air, while low vegetation mainly binds dust and gas parts from the precipitation and contributes a large proportion to groundwater regeneration due to the high infiltration capacity (see also metadata for the planning reference map urban climate). Background: For the determination of the green volume, it was absolutely necessary to separate vegetation from anthropogenic objects with a relevant height above the ground, such as buildings, lanterns, vehicles, etc. At the same time, the crown shape correction (only for deciduous trees) and the flat-rate mark-up for lawns and arable land required further differentiation according to vegetation types. The following vegetation types should be separated from each other: Laubbaum Nadelbaum Sträucher Rasen Acker. Data basis/methodology: The determination of the vegetation structure (as an intermediate result of the green volume determination) is based on laser scan data, RGBI image data and building data. Classification of the vegetation structure of the green volume: Value 0: vegetationless => (colourless or white) Value 1: Deciduous tree => (green) Value 2: Conifer => (dark green) Value 3: Shrubs => (brown green) Value 4: Lawns, meadows and other low vegetation => (yellow/light green) - Value 5: Field => (yellow green/light green)
