Hydromorphological quality of watercourses
Description
The ecological status of surface waters is not only determined by biological and physico-chemical quality. A third important factor is hydromorphology, which includes aspects such as flow pattern, meandering and bank structure. A water body with a natural hydromorphology offers a wide variety of biotopes and therefore more opportunities for biodiversity. In addition, good hydromorphology increases the self-purifying capacity and therefore also the water quality.
