Traditional landscapes

Description

The classification of the traditional landscapes of Flanders dates from 1985 and was a first attempt to present the regional diversity of the historically grown cultural landscapes on a map in their situation before the major changes. The classification is based on both physical and natural characteristics such as relief and soil conditions, as well as on cultural landscape characteristics such as habitation, land use, parcelling and landscape type. This shows that the Flemish Region has a particularly large landscape diversity, which is, however, disappearing at an ever-increasing pace.
