Groundwater areas

Description

Provisions on the identification and classification of groundwater areas and the protection plans for groundwater are laid down in Chapter 2a of the Act on the Organisation of River Basin Management and the Marine Strategy (1299/2004). The amendment to the Act on the Organisation of River Basin Management and the Marine Strategy entered into force on 1 February 2015. According to the Act, the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment classifies a groundwater area on the basis of its suitability for water supply and its need for protection as follows: A groundwater area important for the supply of Category 1 water, the water of which is used or is intended to be used for the supply of water to a community or for domestic purposes more than an average of 10 cubic metres per day or for the needs of more than fifty people. Category 2 other groundwater area suitable for water supply and suitable for the use referred to in paragraph 1 on the basis of its abundance and other characteristics; The Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment also classifies in category E a groundwater area whose groundwater is directly dependent on the surface water or terrestrial ecosystem. Spatial Data Services is responsible for updating the information in Tievelho. The information is updated in Tievelho once a year in April. The update of the information is based on area-based information provided by SYKE, which is processed in the form to be exported to Tievelho in place road services. At the moment, when the data is updated, the old data is removed from Tievelho and the new data is exported as new. History is not recorded in Tiewizard.
