Germany - Deggendorf / Straubing - Flood situation on 5 June 2013 - Area affected - Overview - P16

Description

Continued rainfall in recent days has led to heavy flooding in large parts of Germany. The local forces are supported by the Federal Police, the Bundeswehr and the Technische Hilfswerk. In the district of Deggendorf, the water masses continued to spread after a dam breach near the village of Winzer. Deggendorf is currently almost completely cut off from the outside world, the situation remains tense due to very slowly decreasing levels. In the Straubing and Deggendorf region, about 6,000 people had to leave their homes because of the flooding. In the district of Dingolfing-Landau, on the other hand, the situation seems to be relaxing, the level levels are falling continuously. The water areas shown in the map were derived from a DMCii scene taken on 5 June 2013 at 11:19 CET. RapidEye data with a spatial resolution of 20 meters serve as a background image. In the zoom boxes, an enlarged section is shown in the aerial image comparison. Please note that the flood situation may not be fully captured due to light cloud cover. This product was created within the framework contract “ZKI-DE” between the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) and the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR).
