Water storage capacity in surface water system - Large rivers
Description
Water can be stored in many places. In this file, the drainage possibility through the large rivers is shown. This is considered the maximum amount that can be safely stored in the major rivers.
The stock indicates the maximum discharge capacity of the Rhine branches and Meuse on which the so-called Maatgevende Hoogwaterstanden (MHW) are based. It therefore indicates the maximum amount of water that should be safely discharged through the rivers. It gives a picture of the distribution (in m3/s per branch) as it is distributed with a discharge of 16,000 m3/s at Lobith and 3,800 m3/s at Eijsden. It is not equal to the really maximum drainage capacity at every point on the rivers. In reality, side influxes from the regional system to the rivers must also be taken into account. This ensures that the drainage can be higher locally.
