Inventory of archaeological and paleontological sites
Description
The inventory lists all archaeological and paleontological sites currently known on cantonal territory, pursuant to the Law on the Protection of Archaeological and Paleontological Heritage of 27 May 2015 (RSJU 445.4). The inventory distinguishes between two categories of sites: category 1: sites identified; category 2: suspected sites, the nature of which has not yet been clearly established. Any plans to construct, earthmoving, service, clearing or modifying a site identified in the inventory must be announced in advance to the Culture Office. In case of doubt as to the damage to a site, the Office of Culture shall be the competent authority to consult. Where a construction or development project concerns a Category 1 inventory site and the site requires a scientific investigation (finding, surveying, documentation), the owner may, in certain circumstances, be required to participate in the financing of this study. The conditions are detailed in the legislation.
