Description
The term hemerobie derives from the Greek words hémeros (tamed, cultivated) and bíos (live). Hemerophobia represents the totality of all human interventions in the natural balance and can be understood as an inverse measure of closeness to nature when the anthropogenic interventions are reversible. The land uses and/or land cover values are assigned to the following 7-level hemerobie classification: Level 1: ahemerobic (not influenced by culture), – Level 2: oligohemerobe (weakly influenced by culture), – Level 3: mesohemerobe (moderately influenced by culture), – Level 4: beta-euhemerobic (moderately influenced by culture), – Level 5: Alpha-euhemerobic (strongly influenced by culture), – Level 6: polyhemerobic (very strongly influenced by culture) and – level 7: metahemerobe (excessively influenced by culture/biocenosis destroyed). On the basis of this indicator, overall statements on the quality of anthropogenic land use are possible (as opposed to sectoral indicators).
