Species protection concept
Description
The urban area of Braunschweig, located on the border between the North German lowlands and the hill country, is characterized by a particularly high biodiversity. With more than 700 animal and 1300 plant species, Braunschweig has the highest biodiversity in Lower Saxony. Due to the new designation of protected areas in the European Natura 2000 network, changes in species protection law due to the Habitats Directive and the EU Birds Directive in the Federal Nature Conservation Act and a biotope network to be established, a species protection concept was developed.
