Households in the Helsinki region by surface area, number of dwellers and dwelling density
Description
Surface area, dwelling population and housing density of household-dwelling units in the Helsinki region by number of persons as of 31 December 2001. The data contain data on the number of square metres of dwellings in household-dwelling units, the dwelling population and the average number of square metres of dwelling per inhabitant (m2/person) by number of persons.
##Lower ranges
The Helsinki region consists of four municipalities in the Helsinki metropolitan area: Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and Kauniainen, and ten surrounding municipalities: Hyvinkää, Järvenpää, Kerava, Kirkkonummi, Nurmijärvi, Mäntsälä, Sipoo, Pornainen, Tuusula and Vihti.
The sums in the table are the Helsinki metropolitan area, the peri-urban area, the Helsinki region and Finland. In addition, the table includes the sum level Uusimaa, which covers the municipalities Askola, Hanko, Inkoo, Karjalohja, Karkkila, Lapinjärvi, Lohja, Loviisa (1.1.2010 merged Loviisa, Pernaja, Ruotsinpyhtää, Liljendal), Myrskylä, Nummi-Pusula, Porvoo, Pulkkila, Raasepori and Siuntio.
The regional breakdown corresponds to the situation on 1 January of the year following the statistical reference year. At the beginning of 2009, the south-western part of the municipality of Sipoo (now Östersundom area) and the so-called Västerkulla wedge area of the city of Vantaa were incorporated into Helsinki. This should be taken into account when comparing the data for the statistical years 2001-2007 with the figures for the statistical years 2008- concerning Helsinki, Vantaa and Sipoo, as well as the sum levels for the Helsinki Metropolitan Area and the spending limits area. The Helsinki region is a housing and labour market area.
##Target set and cropping
A household-dwelling unit consists of all persons living permanently in the same dwelling. Household-dwelling units are not formed of persons who, according to the Population Information System, are permanently registered in institutions, the homeless, abroad or in the unaffected. Persons whose dwelling does not meet the definition of a dwelling also do not constitute:
household-dwelling units.
According to the Population Information System, the dwelling population includes persons living permanently in actual dwellings at the end of the year. Persons permanently registered in institutions, persons living in dormitories and abroad and homeless persons do not belong to the dwelling population. Residents of buildings classified as residential buildings whose dwelling does not meet the definition of dwelling do not belong to the dwelling population.
The area of a dwelling is calculated from the interior surfaces of the walls that restrict it. The surface area of a dwelling also includes the surface area of auxiliary spaces (home care room, walk-in closet, etc.), bathroom, craft room, fireplace room, individual sauna, washroom and dressing room, as well as rooms used as workspaces if they do not employ employees. The area of the dwelling does not include the garage, basement, sauna space on the unfurnished ground floor, cold storage space, balcony, porch, cool room, windscreen or non-residential areas of the attic.
The dwelling density has been calculated by dividing the area of the dwelling by the number of dwelling population.
##Classifications
PERSONNEL classifies the data into household-dwelling units of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7+ persons.
##Data collection methods
Information on the place of residence of the persons is received into the Population Information System through the notification of move. The population is combined into household-dwelling units according to the place of residence identifier in a programmatic manner.
