Forest Functions in Saxony

Description

The data series includes the forest functions (WFK) recorded in the framework of the Saxon Forest Function Map (WFK) of the topics water, nature, air, soil, landscape, culture, recreation. The data are based on forest biotopes collected in the framework of the Saxon Forest Biotope mapping (1994 to 2000). In the context of forest biotope mapping, the following were recorded and described: (1.) according to the Saxon Nature Conservation Act § 26 (SächsNatschG) especially protected forest biotope types, such as moor and fracture forests, cave-rich individual trees, natural spring areas, unobstructed streams (2.) rare natural forest societies, where natural beech and oak forest societies are most common and (3.) other valuable but unprotected biotope types in the forest, which include, for example, zoological/botanically valuable areas, forest edges and hedges.
