Description
The Global Archaeological Map of the Continental Shelf shows the chance of ship finds for the Dutch part of the Continental Shelf. This card is presented as a separate card for two reasons. First, the scale level does not match that of the IKAW. The mapping scale of this map is 1:500,000. Secondly, the coordinate system used for the land area does not apply here. The geographical frame of reference consists of UTM coordinates. Also on this map the probability of hitting is indicated in three categories. The definition of the high probability of impact corresponds to the underwater areas on the IKAW. However, the boundary between medium and low has not been established in the presence or absence of inclined-layered trench deposits. The medium rating of this map also includes those areas in which the covering sand waves have a height of more than 4 meters. A separate map layer shows the areas where peat bogs and clays have been preserved. Where early Holocene deposits are concerned, remains from the Mesolithic can occur under and in the base bog.
