Drilling of the Lower Saxony Drilling Database (BDN)

Description

As a geological service in accordance with the Geological Data Act (GeolDG) (formerly the Deposits Act), the LBEG is responsible for the collection and processing of results from underground exploration, e.g. by drilling. Drilling has been carried out for more than 150 years to extract raw materials and explore the subsoil. The rock obtained by the borehole is described and this description is ideally permanently available as information about the subsoil. Whereas the underground information used to be paper documents that could be viewed in the archive, today the LBEG makes this information available predominantly online in the map server. The drilling in the drilling database of Lower Saxony is divided into specialist areas. These divisions arise from the purpose from which a borehole was drilled. For example, the HY Hydrogeology Department includes drilling for the exploration and use of groundwater, the IG Engineering Geology Department includes drilling for the exploration of the subsoil, and so on. In individual cases, the department also allows conclusions to be drawn about the depth of the drilling, such as KB Kartierbohrungen der Geologie, which were drilled to create the geological map of Lower Saxony or BV Bohrverzeichnis der Tiefbohrungen. For this purpose, the borehole must be clicked on and then the further information must be called up. If there is no digital layer directory for a borehole or if a borehole is not generally open for inspection, a page with the master data of this borehole opens.
