Description
The map "Structural Geological Survey of Brandenburg" gives an overview of the deep geology and the structural geological blueprint of Brandenburg. These are dominated by the NW-SE striking intracranial North German depression, the base of which is lowered in the northern and central part of the country's territory to a depth of over 5,000 m and stands out to the south and southeast. The basin centre continues from northwest Brandenburg in the direction of the Lower Elbe. On the other hand, the current southern boundary is tectonic. It is formed by regional fault zones, which belong to the fault system of the Central German main crashes. Particularly during the so-called transgressive periods characterized by marine advances, the depression advanced much further south.
The structural geological conditions are reproduced here in an ideal way by the current depth position of the Zechstein base and the structural modulation of the Zechstein surface. Therefore, statements on this are the main content of the map, which is strongly based on the Tectonic Map of the GDR (KATZUNG 1990). However, the Zechstein subsurface does not correspond to the sink base, but the red-lying layers and unfolded layers of carbon must also be added to this.
