State of temporary coverage of landfills and landfill gas collection
Description
In landfills where waste with a high biological content has been deposited in the past, a temporary cover must be established in accordance with the Landfill Ordinance 2008. This should enable a control of the water balance of the landfill and increase the recorded amounts of landfill gas. By recording and treating the generated landfill gas, emissions of greenhouse gas-efficacious methane can be reduced and climate targets can be supported, especially in the waste management sector. Based on questionnaire surveys, the report describes the state of temporary landfill cover and its structure. For the years 2008 to 2012, the recorded landfill gas volumes and the respective treatment routes were collected.
