Stolpersteine (WFS Service)
Description
Stumbling stones are small brass commemorative plaques, the size of a paving stone.
With them, the artist Gunter Demnig recalls the fate of people who were persecuted, murdered, expelled or driven to suicide during the time of National Socialism. The stumbling blocks are embedded in the pavement of the pavement in front of the last freely chosen houses of the Nazi victims and contain the name, the vintage and the fate of the person concerned.
In the meantime, stumbling blocks lie in more than 500 places in Germany and in several European countries. Since 2009, Dresden has also been commemorating its persecuted fellow citizens with stumbling blocks. Other "stumbling blocks" will follow.
