“Summary and outlook: In the context of subproject 5 “Development and ecological value of existing clerical sites in salt marshes as a decision-making aid for the assessment of future extractions”, the geomorphological, sedimentological and soil history data collected during the period 1990 to 1996 by the NLÖ – Coastal Research Centre were evaluated.
The present evaluation shows that the examined puddles can refill relatively quickly and reach the terrain height of the surrounding area after about 30 years. However, this depends on the location and size of the pods. In comparison to the unpumped salt marshes, most of the putts form close to nature and have a natural, broadly branched Priel system instead of the rigid bed-grave structures. The morphological design of the puddles with banks and sinks is closer to nature and leads to greater morphological diversity than in the comparison areas.
In terms of soil properties, the putters can reach the development level of the environment within about 30 years under comparable conditions and are more comparable to the agricultural unused land than with the mown or grazed areas. In addition to the terrain height and the morphological design of the putts, the location of the surfaces in the room has an influence on the central soil properties.
The survey of the soil history data was mainly carried out to describe vegetation and different locations and so far could only be carried out as an example in 1993. For a better secured and even more differentiated analysis of soil development in the putts as well as the relationship between soil development and development of flora and vegetation, the sample size should be substantially increased and the number of parameters recorded should be expanded. This should be carried out at all grid points of the putts and comparator areas, and by a renewed vegetation mapping of these grid points with flora and vegetation.
