Report: Macrozoobenthos: Initial Settlement, Dispersion, Recruitment (1993-1996)»

Description

The ability of benthic communities to react elastically to anthropogenic and natural disorders is based on the elastic properties of their populations. In macrofauna, a repopulation of disturbed areas can take place on the one hand by initial settlement of planctic larvae on the other hand, but also by the dispersion capacity of juvenile and adult stages. Thus, the detection of initial settlement, dispersion and recruitment is necessary in order to be able to describe existing or changing settlement structures in an area and to estimate the regeneration capacity of disturbed areas. Between 1993 and 1996, data collection was carried out on the Gröninger Plate and in the port of Neuharlingersiel (plankton catches) using benthosberopungen, drift fauna catches, and marking experiments. In particular, the polychaetes Lanice conchilega (focus), Scoloplos poorer and Heteromastus filiformis as well as the Bivalvia were investigated. [...]’
