In conclusion, a non-exclusive negative impact of slag on the abundances of individual species and the sometimes quite high copper concentrations in the indicator organisms is reason enough to consider whether slag, which is to be regarded as an additional source of copper contamination in the growth and enrichment of copper in the food chain, should continue to be used as entrustment material in a coastal region pre-loaded with heavy metals.’
