Report: Epibiosis: anthropogenic hard substrates — Comparison to previous surveys (1993)»
Description
‘On the occasion of the present study, there were increased signs of species decrease on artificial hard substrates. In order to capture possible developments, qualitative inventory surveys were carried out at selected sites in the Lower Saxony Wadden area. The results of this study were compared with previous studies with regard to changes in species composition. In addition to the qualitative and quantitative samples, the Norderney site was also carried out in order to provide a detailed basis for comparison for future investigations. On the basis of the assumption that the increased feeding pressure of individual bird species is causal with the assumed decrease in species, bird censuses and observations were carried out on Norderney, in particular seabirds (silver gull, oyster fisherman, eider duck). In 1993, the following anthropogenic hard substrates were studied at five sites in the Lower Saxony Wadden Region: Wilhelmshavener Leitdamm and Eckwarderhörner Damm and Buhne (Jadebusen), base of the extinct Sengwarder subfire (Hoher Weg), ship wrecks (knechtsand), groans and crane base (Norderney).
While the previous studies had a spectrum of 95, only 73 species were found in 1993. [...] The drastic decline is primarily due to anthropogenic influences. [...]»
