Description
“This monitoring plan refers to the transition and coastal waters of Lower Saxony in the Weser and Ems river basin districts. [...] Article 8 of the EC Water Framework Directive (WFD) requires Member States to establish programmes to monitor the status of waters by 22.12.2006. The objectives of these programmes are to determine water quality, identify the causes of deficiencies in water quality, collect the basis for planning measures, review the effectiveness of measures and record trends in this area. For surface waters, these programmes include the identification of the ecological and chemical status or ecological potential. [...]
The WFD inventory and initial assessment was completed in May 2005 and reports are available for the three levels of river basin unit, coordination area and processing area. The results are a prerequisite for the establishment of transitional programmes.
