Report: ‘Implementation WRRL: EMS Dollart Estuary – Interim Report (2005-2006)»

Description

» Project content: Initial approaches to assessing the ecological status in the transition waters of the Ems Dollart estuary were developed in 2003-2005 as a project “Ecological assessment concepts using the example of the Ems Dollart estuary” in German Dutch cooperation. The main foundations for this were developed on the Dutch and German side in the context of different projects, which were located at the respective specialist authorities and, above all, contributed to the evaluation concepts. This form of cooperation has proven to be very constructive. The work on the 2005 Report showed that the transition waters of the Ems – as well as the transitional waters of the other estuaries – may be designated as “HMWB” and that the assessment approaches must therefore be aligned with the achievement of the ecological potential. This work will be carried out on a project-based basis in ongoing projects under the control of the Ems-Dollart Water Quality Working Group as a subgroup of the Ems-Dollart Permanent Water Commission [...]. In doing so, the work of the past two years is directly linked and built on it. The following content lies in the above-titled project, which has been underway since 01 August 2005 (processing time to 15. 09. 06), which is based on the NLWKN on the German side: Objectives of the project: Reconsidering the limitation and status: naturally or significantly changed; Developing the ecological potential in the Ems-Dollart estuar and an assessment scheme based on it, building on an assessment system for good ecological status; Development of a monitoring plan tailored to the requirements of the EC-WRRL Initiation of field work on data compaction within the framework of monitoring; Cooperation and coordination between the parallel projects in Germany and the Netherlands on the common formulation of ecological potential, evaluation approaches and monitoring strategies [...]»
