Report: Macrozoobenthos: Lütetsburger Plate – TMAP-Monitoring (1999)»
Description
The “Trilateral Monitoring and Assessment Program (TMAP)” introduced an integrated and methodologically uniform monitoring of the Wadden Sea ecosystem by the three neighbouring countries Netherlands, Germany and Denmark. In the course of the implementation of this programme, the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park Administration commissioned the NLÖ Coast Research Centre in autumn 1998 with the establishment and continuous investigation of 4 monitoring stations for the monitoring of the macrozoobenthos on the Lütetsburger Plate (Steuwer 2000). Together with the long-term stations of the NLÖ Coast Research Centre in Norderney Islandwatt, which already existed since 1976, a continuous eulitoral station profile from the mainland line to the island watt was established. According to the TMAP guidelines, the monitoring stations on the Lütetsburger Plate are examined twice a year in spring and autumn. In the context of the monitoring of the eulitoral mussel deposits on the Lower Saxony coast, the area’s shell banks have been mapped repeatedly in recent years (OBERT & MICHAELIS 1989; Michaelis et al. 1995, ZENS et al. 1997, HERLYN & MILLAT 1997, MILLAT & HERLYN 1999). Since 1994, a permanent station for monitoring the stocking, age distribution and area expansion of mussels has been operated on the plate (MILLAT & HERLYN 1999). The results of the 1999 permanent examinations are summarised in this report.”
