Report: “Surveillance of Lower Saxon Coast – Routine Investigations 1997”
Description
“Since 1994, the Lower Saxony State Office for Ecology (NLÖ) – Coast Research Centre – has been conducting physico-chemical and biological studies to monitor the coastal waters of Lower Saxony according to a concept agreed with the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Environment. [...]
It also includes essential monitoring components that can be included in the new Federal/State Measuring Programme (BLMP) and the Trilateral Wadden Sea Monitoring Programme (TMAP). In doing so, the Land of Lower Saxony also meets the obligations it has due to its coastal waters in the nationally organised monitoring programme (BLMP) and in its interconnected international monitoring programmes (JAMP, TMAP). In particular, the integration of a number of biological analysis components into the concept ensures that the meaningfulness is maintained in the longer term and goes beyond the possibilities available so far. [...] The 1997 monitoring report summarises the results of the following routine investigations of 1997:
Water tests: Nutrient and pollutant inputs from Ems, Weser and Elbe to the German Bay;
Water tests: Distribution of nutrients and pollutants in the mouths of Ems, Weser and Elbe;
Water tests: Summer nutrient distribution;
Water tests: Winter nutrient and pollutant distribution
Water tests: Continuous examination for the detection of water-chemical measurements;
Sediment studies: Pollutants in organisms (heavy metals and persistent organic pollutants in mussels and flatfish);
Biological inventory monitoring: Permanent examination of phytoplankton;
Biological inventory monitoring: Information system for plankton blooms and toxic algae;
Biological inventory monitoring: Permanent examination of eulitoral macrozoobenthos: Weser estuary;
Biological inventory monitoring: Permanent examination of eulitoral macrozoobenthos: Norderneyer Watt;
Biological inventory monitoring: Permanent examination of eulitoral macrozoobenthos:
Leybucht;
Biological inventory monitoring: Permanent examination of eulitoral macrozoobenthos:
Mussel bench;
Biological inventory monitoring: Permanent examination of eulitoral macroalgae:
Low Saxon Wadden;’
