Report: ‘Protection of proof Coastal protection Ley Bay: Vegetation Hauener Hooge (1995-1999)»

Description

‘In the Ley Bay area, the ‘Coast Protection Leybucht’ measure of around 740 ha of marin-influenced habitats — wadding, foreland and summer polder land — was lost or new and other functions were added. As compensation for the loss of area or function, among other things, the opening of the summer dike in the Hauner Hooge was fixed. The opening took place in October 1994 with the aim of increasing the value of the areas for nature conservation by ensuring the natural influence of saltwater in all areas of the former polder area. The aim is to develop non-use, low-interference and natural salt marshes and Priel structures. In terms of leyhorns, natural dynamics are even stronger than other biotopes in landscape development. In 1998, the NLÖ Coast Research Centre carried out a vegetation mapping of the compensation areas of the Hauener Hooge on a scale of 1:2,500. It is presented here and compared with the 1995 mapping (see ARENS 1997). Furthermore, the results of the annual vegetation-related permanent areas recorded between 1995 and 1999 are presented here.
