Description
“The “Coast Protection Leybucht” measure, which has been operated since 1985 by the Stawa Aurich (now NLWK branch office Aurich), includes, among other things, the construction of a storm-proof dyke nose (Leyhörn) with Siel, lock and storage basin extending out of the Ley Bay to the northwest. In the course of the measure, approximately 740 hectares of wattage, salt marshes and summer polder areas were demolished, superstructured or otherwise removed from their previous function. As compensation, the Plan Approval Decision provides for various measures to enhance nature conservation in the Ley Bay; among other things, Leyhörn was designated as a nature reserve by the Weser-Ems district government in 1994.
Following the first phase of the preservation of evidence from 1989-1997, the NLÖ Coast Research Centre was commissioned in 1997 by the Weser-Ems District Government to continue it with a second phase of investigation until the beginning of 2000. This includes, among other things, studies on terrestrial invertebrates in the NSG Leyhörn, the first results of which are presented in this service report.”
